Hi,
I'm trying to use my Canon EOS 500D with micromanager. The camera has the latest firmware installed and, if necessary, also supports the magic lantern firmware. I'm using the latest micromanager2 svn version and libgphoto2 2.4.11. According to the libgphoto2 documentation [1], the Canon EOS 500D is fully supported and even the Viewfinder (i.e. live view) works. I verified that all essential features are working, both with gphoto2 and with piggyphoto [2]. I can switch on the camera (the mode wheel is set to "M"), plug in the USB cable and then auto-detect the camera with gphoto2: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- $ gphoto2 --auto-detect Model Port ---------------------------------------------------------- Canon EOS 500D usb:001,052 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also the viewfinder liveview works fine with piggyphoto: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- $ python preview.py --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- However, even though everything appears to be working fine with gphoto2 and piggyphoto, with micro-manager and the GPhoto DeviceAdapter it does not work properly. When adding the GPhoto DeviceAdapter to the micro-manager configuration with the hardware configuration wizard, I already get errors: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LOG(2011-11-13T14:44:30.014473, 10462, 140227237422848:): Device GPhoto loaded from GPhoto and labeled as GPhoto LOG(2011-11-13T14:44:30.014498, 10462, 140227237422848:): Device GPhoto set as default camera. In the "Live" view, the camera just takes pictures every few seconds. I assume this would be the fallback solution for cameras that do not support "live viewfinders". However, my camera definitely supports live viewfinding and I even verified this with piggyphoto (see above). In the error log above you can see that at first it says "Camera with live viewfinder support detected", but then at a later point it says "Camera without live viewfinder support". * How can I resolve these issues ? I would like use the video stream from the camera for the "Live" view and I also would like to take *color* images instead of black/white. * Is there any other possibility to use my Camera with micro-manager on Linux ? On the micro-manager site [3] it says that there is support for "TetheredCam". Unfortunately, TetheredCam only supports Windows but not Linux. Does anyone else use the GPhoto DeviceAdapter and/or Canon EOS cameras ? I would be happy to receive some advice/feedback. regards, Stefan [1] http://gphoto.org/doc/remote/ [2] http://magiclantern.wikia.com/wiki/Remote_control_with_PTP_and_Python#Quick_Start [3] http://valelab.ucsf.edu/~MM/MMwiki/index.php/Device%20Support ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ RSA(R) Conference 2012 Save $700 by Nov 18 Register now http://p.sf.net/sfu/rsa-sfdev2dev1 _______________________________________________ micro-manager-general mailing list [hidden email] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/micro-manager-general |

Hi Stefan,
You may want to contact the author of the GPhoto adapter (Koen De Vleeschauwer) directly. I am not sure if he follows this list. Best, Nico On Nov 13, 2011, at 6:11 AM, Stefan Schoenleitner wrote:
