Dear all,
Does anyone use uManager to acquire BF images with USB camera? I recently bought a A USB camera from amscope.com (Model MU300-CK). It seems that uManager does not recognize it even if I tried to load the twain driver. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Hi Er, The website shows that the camera has a Directshow driver, you may have some success with the OpenCVgrabber device adapter. I'd be interested to know how you get on, if there is anything that neeeds looking at please let me know. Best, Ed -- ed@esimaging.co.uk http://www.esimaging.co.uk |

Ed,
Thanks for your reply. I did try it today by following the instructions from ESimaging website. First I installed the OpenCV2.1 software, then installed OpenCVgrabber to the micromanager directory (PS: I'm using MM1.4.6 nightlybuid 20110724). However, when I try to add the camear, the device is not visible from the device list. The reason I'm still using MM1.4.6 nightlybuild 20110724 is because Andor has customerized their drive to perform asymmetric binning for my spectral collection purposes and it was not yet incorporated into the new version of MM. Please let me know what the catch might be. Thanks, Er |

Eliu,
Hi. I'm new to MM but I'm having some problems with my Tucsen camera, TWAIN and OpenCV so I'm gaining some experience everyday. My 2 cents: With OpenCV you normally will not notice the camera in any way until you press the Snap/Live/Acquire button and get the image. In my case the camera blinks its led at step 5 of the hardware setup process. Please tell us if you can acquire the image or you just aborted the setup process when you couldn find the camera. That's interesting. I tested just now and found that if I select nothing to add (because I can't find OpenCVgrabber) at step 2, I couldn't see anything at step 5 and thus no devices were added. I will try to install the latest nightly build version of MM to see if that solves my problem.

Federico,
I tested with the new MM 1.4.8 121811 nightly build, and I was able to get the USB camera recognized. However, I found another problem, I can not even adjust the gain in the property browser. So I tried to capture a BF image with 3000ms exposure and I cannot get anything visible. Er |

> Hi. I'm new to MM but I'm having some problems with my Tucsen camera, Hej, I wonder if anyone could send me some information about the general image quality of Tucsen cameras? Can you compare the quality to other (expensive) cameras from the usual suspects? How about fluorescence imaging? Maybe it is possible to use a part of the MM website for uploads of pictures taken by us, the users? Or does anyone know a web forum where the quality of standard microscopy cameras is discussed and compared to each other? Or could we maybe think about a standard testing procedure? 10 MP chips for prosumer or consumer digital still cameras with HD video support are already very cheap, 10-100 US-$ or even $ 60 for the camera itself. There are even noname high resolution cameras for astronomy/telescopes with peltier cooling for less then $1000 on the market. By the way: is it possible to do darkframe substraction automatically with MM?? Greetings ;-) Torsten Dipl.-Biol. Torsten Fregin Universität Hamburg - Biozentrum Grindel (ZIM) Abt. Hi Torsten,
It´s very difficult for me answer to your question since I have never worked with flourescence imaging. From my experience in microscopy, Tucsen cameras have a very good quality/cost ratio. For the kind of comparison you are looking for, please try http://microscopetalk.wordpress.com/photomicrography/fluorscent-microscopy-comparison-of-two-microscope-cameras-tucsen-tcc-3-3ice-n-vs-zeiss-mrc5/ Another site with nice info and comparisons is Martin Microscopy http://www.martinmicroscope.com/Digital&Video.htm Best regards, Federico |
